Tonya Corbin Clerk of Superior Court

 

Meet Tonya Corbin, a lifelong advocate and dedicated public servant with a rich background in law enforcement and community service.

Born in Heidelberg, Germany, but spending her formative years in Schweinfurt, Germany, Tonya proudly identifies as an “Army brat” and holds her international upbringing close to her heart. Tonya’s upbringing as an Army brat instilled in her a deep sense of duty and service. Upon returning to the United States, her family settled in the great state of Georgia upon her father’s retirement from the Army.

Tonya’s professional journey began in Law Enforcement, where she served as a Correctional Officer/Detention Officer for an impressive 17 years. Her dedication and excellence in this field were evident through multiple Officer of the Month awards and the esteemed Officer of the Year award. Despite facing challenges such as facility closure and layoff, Tonya remained undeterred and pursued higher education earning a degree in Legal Studies from Clayton State University.

Transitioning to the legal field, Tonya joined the Douglas County District Attorney’s Office initially as a Legal Staff Assistant, before ascending to the role of Crime Victims Advocate, with a specialization in Crime Victims Compensation. Her commitment to advocating for victim’s rights was underscored by being the first Victim Advocate in the State of Georgia to establish a precedent in a significant crime victims compensation claim. Tonya’s outstanding contributions were recognized with accolades including the office’s Shining Star award in 2019 and the esteemed Victim Advocate of the Year Award in 2021, a testament to her impact and leadership.

Embracing a new chapter, Tonya served as a paralegal for the Georgia Government Transparency & Campaign Finance Commission (now Georgia Ethics Commission), In this capacity, she actively engaged with dedicated elected officials, cultivated a heightened understanding of community imperatives, and gained invaluable insights into governance, the importance of transparent governance, and community needs. Despite her success in this role, Tonya felt a stirring calling to expand her public service, drawing upon her innate passion for advocating for others, leading her to pursue higher office.

Tonya and her husband Dusty have been proud residents of Fayette County for seven years, where they actively engage in initiatives to improve the quality of life for all. Tonya is a dedicated Executive Board member of THE South Side Steppers ATL, a soul line dance organization that not only serves the community with the joy of dance, but also strives to uplift the community through various initiatives such as food drives, college scholarship fundraisers, charitable endeavors, and dance education programs. Outside of her professional pursuits and her innate love for line dancing, Tonya finds fulfillment in traveling and cherishing moments with her husband and family. Tonya and Dusty are members of World Changers Church International and have four adult children and two precious 1-year-old grandsons, who aren’t twins. 

Now, Tonya Corbin is stepping forward as your candidate for Clerk of Superior Court, offering a fresh perspective and a steadfast commitment to serving the citizens of Fayette County. With her as your Clerk, rest assured that the office will be run efficiently, ethically, and with the utmost dedication to the community.
